Senior Deacon: victor smalls
Diakonos or Deacon refers to the service or ministration of a helper or bondservant (one who has sold himself by choice for service). Their ministry is non-preaching but should be apt (possess the ability) to teach. These are proven men in the faith who serve at the pleasure of the Pastor and may function as the right-hand men to the Pastor in secular/business matters of the church. They may also assist in conducting worship services, carrying out the ordinances of the church, and shall be knowledgeable of the doctrine of the Church.
General Duties
Chairman of Deacon Board (Sr. Deacon)
• Supervise the work of the Deacon Ministry and oversee the care of the House of God.
• Function as a member of the Executive Council and Church Council.
• Oversee the collection of revenue, primarily offerings, in accordance with procedures.
• Participate in the collection of public offerings when specifically assigned.
• Oversee the transfer of collected funds to the Finance Committee.
• Schedule Deacons for specific assignments as tasked by the Pastor.
• Monitor the pulpit in the absence of the Pastor when no other ministerial staff is present.
Deacon
• Assist the pastor and associate ministerial staff in the administration or conduct of the ordinances of the church: Holy Communion, Baptism, and Feet Washing when assigned.
• Participate in the collection of the church offerings when assigned and assist the finance committee as requested.
• Support and encourage the congregation to support the Pastor and various programs he has set forth.
• Conduct worship services including prayer or teaching the "Word" when tasked by the Pastor or other qualified and approved persons.
• Fulfill assignments and ensure the proper care of the church’s physical maintenance, including custodial services, necessary repairs, and upkeep.
